The legendary singer and bass player first shot to fame as a member of Hawkwind.
His own heavy metal band, Motorhead, then had a series of hits including Ace of Spaces.
Motorhead played in Plymouth several times over the years, including at the Pavilions, and Lemmy took time to meet with youngsters at Saltash-based music project Livewire.
Plymouth rock music fans have been paying tribute to Lemmy on social media after news of his death broke.
Woke up to learn Lemmy had died. Sad. Used to see him a lot hanging out in Soho's old Marquee. #RIPLemmyhttps://t.co/3XBCHTFpr7

Many musicians are described as rock stars. Few are worthy of the accolade. If anything, the accolade was not worthy of Lemmy. #RIPLemmy
