MTV Crashes brought £3.5million into the city after attracting 60,000 people to dance and rave in the spectacular setting of Plymouth Hoe, it has been revealed.
Chart toppers Tinie Tempah and Little Mix wowed a 35,000-strong crowd on July 22 while superstar DJ Steve Aoki headlined the second day on July 23, before city bands rocked the same stage a day later.
Councillor Peter Smith announced that the concerts added £3.5m to the city's economy and was seen across 40 countries globally, with 425 articles or broadcasts about MTV Crashes Plymouth produced in regional and national media.
The Plymouth City Council events team was praised for their organisation, with the team lumbered with an extra day to organise compared with 2014's one-day event.
"It is breathtaking what you have done," said Labour and council leader Tudor Evans at yesterday's cabinet meeting.
"It was a Herculean effort. And what a stage it was for music. There is no better backdrop and it was great to see the Hoe being used for that. The look on people's faces was something to behold."
The mastermind behind the event, Jamie Yabsley, said resulting publicity ensured his team's dedication was well warranted.
"It was hard work but incredibly rewarding. When you see what we did, it made it all worthwhile," he added.
