Home Park in Plymouth was packed to the rafters when Rod Stewart fans descended in their thousands to watch the iconic star in action.

The gig on Tuesday night was blessed with glorious sunshine that kept the crowd happy despite a couple of hitches before and after the main event.

Parking at Home Park was reserved for VIPs only so hundreds of Rod fans tried to use the city's park and ride facilities at Coypool and the George Junction.

But despite assurances that extra buses had been laid on many fans were left waiting more than 90 minutes for one to turn up, fearing they would miss the start of the show.

Others chose to park close to Home Park or in the Life Centre car park - and quickly found themselves issued with parking tickets.

And once inside, the pain wasn't over as hot food sold out before the concert began, leaving fans queuing for 40 minutes to get chocolate or crisps.

After a short delay, Rod took to the stage and most of the evenings worries were quickly forgotten.

Rod quickly got onto his hits, a couple of costume changes and then started punting signed footballs into the crowd.

By 10pm he was on to Maggie May and the crowd was in full voice.

The show over-ran by about 30 minutes as Rod just didn't want to leave the stage and after a rousing rendition of Superstition from the band it all came down with a fireworks show.
